The Yaquis’ of Ciudad Obregon are a baseball team of the Mexican Pacific League, with headquarters in Ciudad Obregón, Sonora, Mexico.
The Yaquis of Obregón have written their history with letters of gold in the Mexican Pacific League (LMP per its initials in Spanish), by being the first team in conquering a tri-championship. The achievement came about in a very categorical manner. The tri-champions, the Yaquis of Obregon blew away their rivals, Las Aguilas from Mexicali, in four games and in the fourth game of the finale of the 2012-2013 season series of the LMP, the “tribe” overtook their rivals by winning by 16-3.
They have a total of 7 titles of the league (1965-66, 1972-73, 1980-81, 2007-08, 2010-11, 2011-12, 2012-13) and 2 in the Caribbean Series (2011 in Mayagüez and 2013 Hermosillo).
In the 2013 Caribbean Series that took place in Sonora Stadium, the Yaquis of Obregon gave Mexico its champion win for the seventh time in its history (two in the team score) by defeating the Leones del escogido from the Dominican Republic by 4-3, in a game that lasted 7 hours.
In the lineup of the Yaquis, ex-players from the big leagues have paraded through; Vinicio Castilla, considered one of the best Mexican baseball players of all time; as well as the likes of Francisco García, Jesús “Lefty” Robles, Vicente “Egg” Romo, Enrique Romo, among others.
