World Cup Fever to Boost Sales in T&T

With Trinidad and Tobago now fully consumed by World Cup fever, many sports bars and night clubs are capitalising on the event, with special packages organised, and bumper alcohol sales expected.

Sales are expected to be boosted since many are headed to the clubs to watch the matches from big plasma screens, rather that the distraction of the couch at home. Bar owners have planned for the influx, having stocked merchandise and offering deals on mugs, flags and other items. 

Aria Lounge, at Ariapita Avenue, Port of Spain on kick-off day last Thursday had an inclusive food and drink special that was well patronised, with a result, a Brazilian beating of Croatia, a popular outcome.

J-zz’s International Steak House in Couva has planned live bands after games, projector screens to watch the matches and also a competition for the month on the “largest tab”. 

Jousha Singh, manager at the restaurant said, “We are very excited about the games and we’re trying to make the place as warm and friendly as possible for our customers.” 

The games which are mostly scheduled for the afternoon periods will bring in the “after work” crowd and “no one wants to clean up after themselves when they enjoying the lime so the crowd will be big”, said Singh. 

All Out Sports Bar and Gourmet Grill on Tragarete Road, Port of Spain is going all out with their “happy hour all day everyday” special for the entire month. They have also bought an ungraded HD 80-inch TV. A worker said they are geared up to celebrate the World Cup. 

Manager at The Rig in La Romaine, Donny Basdeo said they always prepare for their sporting fans and will tune in for the games as long as customers wish.

Hotels have also joined in on the month long football fete. These included Cara Suites Hotel and Conference Centre in Pointe-a-Pierre where hotel manager Hassel Thom, said they will be showing the matches at the bar and will continue with their daily promotions and specials for Fridays and weekends. Thom said, “We welcome anyone else who wishes to partake in the football experience.” 

The Hilton Trinidad Hotel and Conference Centre in Port of Spain has prepared big screen TVs and decorated the lobby in a football theme. The hotel has a food and drinks special and a promotion where you can earn a free night during matches.
