Colombian and foreign intellectuals pay tribute to Gabriel Garcia Marquez from today until next Friday, during a week of talks dedicated to the stories and the author of "El amor en los tiempos del colera" (Love in the time of cholera), said organizers.

The National Library is one of the venues of the literary gathering dealing with the art of writing and the versatility of the journalist and novelist, born in 1927 in the small town of Aracataca, Magdalena. Well-known figures, like Colombian Luis Fayad, will participate in the talks to pay tribute to the author of "Cronica de una muerte anunciada" (Chronicle of a death foretold), 1981, and "Del amor y otros demonios" (Of love and other demons), 1994, organizers told the media.

Along with his novels, Garcia Marquez wrote short stories like "Ojos de perro azul" (Eyes of a blue dog), "La mujer que llegaba a las seis" (The woman who came at six o'clock), "Rosas artificiales" (Artificial roses and "Dialogo del espejo" (Dialogue with a mirror).

"Gabo y la musica", (Gabo and the music) is the title of another lecture scheduled to study the legacy of Garcia Marquez, Nobel Prize Laureate in Literature in 1982, who by then was already quite a cultural event in Colombia and Latin America. From all his works, probably the most acknowledged is "Cien años de soledad" (One hundred years of solitude), 1967, a great metaphor linked to the Buendia family and the magic world of the town Macondo.

Poet Pablo Neruda referred to this book as: the best novel ever written in Spanish besides Don Quixote. Among speakers of the talks are Mempo Giardinelli from Argentina and Antonio Garcia, from Cali, Colombia.

The talks will be followed by the awarding of the Gabriel Garcia Marquez Spanish-American Short Story Prize on coming November 21
