ventureLAB launches pulseHUB, a health and wellness accelerator

Posted by PanamericanWorld on May 09, 2016

pulseHUB at ventureLAB, a pilot accelerator in York Region for early stage health and wellness technology companies, has announced the first cohort of four companies participating in the program.  Located in the Markham Convergence Centre, pulseHUB provides each company with an advisory team, resources, connections and opportunities tailored help the companies with customer acquisition and market development.   Cohort companies do not pay for services or rent, and were selected in a competitive application process.

As a Regional Innovation Centre, ventureLAB’s programs will support the pulseHUB companies accelerate their market launch, secure new customers across Canada and the USA, and  achieve defined growth milestones over a nine-month period.  They also receive expert advice from pulseHUB partners MNP, a national accounting, tax and business consulting firm and Bereskin & Parr, a Canadian intellectual property law firm.  By partnering with these leading firms, pulseHUB companies will have access to best-in-class accounting and legal advice with  global experience.

“There is a growing health and wellness technology sector in York Region, so we’re very excited to launch pulseHUB,” said Jeremy Laurin, president and CEO of ventureLAB. “It’s our hope that by being part of pulseHUB, these companies will get to market faster, experience accelerated growth, and have better access to resources and opportunities they may not have elsewhere.”

“One of MNP’s core values is helping communities thrive,” says Keith Kwan, a Private Enterprise partner in MNP’s GTA office. “MNP contributes to this core value through our expertise in the healthcare, technology and entrepreneurial sectors. We believe that our alignment with pulseHub and the organizations within this incubator will help us collectively benefit the communities that strive to make a positive impact on the future of healthcare”

“Bereskin & Parr is proud to be a pulseHUB and ventureLAB partner,” said Bhupinder Randhawa, a partner with Bereskin & Parr and Head of the firm’s Engineering & Technology Law practice. “There can be significant legal considerations related to health innovation and technology markets that create barriers for entrepreneurs looking to grow scalable enterprises. The challenges in obtaining and leveraging strong Intellectual Property protection vary across different technologies.  Bereskin & Parr has a large patent team with experts across all

technology areas.  Our specialized expertise and experience in intellectual property and technology law provides clients with critical guidance suited to their unique situations to accelerate their growth and build the value of their companies.”
