The Venezuelan softball team on Saturday defeated Argentina 2-0 in the final game of the Pan- American Softball Championship held in the Argentine city of Parana, local media reported on Sunday.

Right pitcher Ramon Jones had a key role for the Venezuelan victory. During seven complete innings, he only allowed three hits, struck out 10 rivals and only four players advanced around the bases.

Venezuela scored the only two runs thanks to a home-run by Franklin Gonzalez, making second baseman Jorge Lima to step into home.

Jones, who played the whole game, had a complicated moment in the last stage of the match, when he allowed men in all the bases, but later he recovered and struck out two Argentine players.

Both Venezuelans Gonzalez, who scored the home-run, and Lima had a good batting score during the game.

Venezuela became the Pan-American champion, while Argentina won silver medal and the United States won bronze.

The next performance of the Venezuelan softball team will be at the Central American and Caribbean Games to be played in Mexico's eastern city of Veracruz, from Nov. 14 to 30.
