Venezuelan imports from Uruguay increased 13%

In February Venezuela bought to Uruguay goods worth 78 million dollars compared to 69 million dollars last year, showing an increase in imports of 13%. This figure shows that Venezuela is the third destination for Uruguayan exports, over Argentina.

In general, the Uruguayan foreign sales were up 8.1% in February compared to the same month last year, and totaled 584 million dollars, while imports were up 12.6% and reached 733 million, according to the Institute Uruguay XXI.

The agency responsible for the promotion of investment and exports in Uruguay also informed that Brazil was again the country's largest trading partner, despite buying the first two months of 2014 6.9 % less than the previous year, reaching 232 million dollars, Efe reported.

Meanwhile, China was confirmed as the second largest buyer of Uruguayan goods, increasing their purchases by 34.4 %, up to 120 million dollars in January- February this year.

Frozen beef was again the most exported product despite falling 17.4%, with a value of 148 million compared to 179 exported in January and February 2013.

In contrast, milk grew by 83.6 % and reached 99 million dollars in the first two months of this year, compared to 54 million exported last year.
