Posted by Dubraswka Aguilar on March 19, 2014

This Tuesday the Under 17 women's national team defeated Zambia 4-0, and secured a place in the quarterfinals of the World Cup Costa Rica 2014.

The player of the match was the Venezuelan Gabriela Garcia, who scored three goals in the second half of the game.

Garcia’s first goal came at the minute 47 though a shot that hit the post and slipped to the bottom of the net defended by Hazel Nali.

The Venezuelan scored her second goal with a header inside the area after a center by Deyna Castellanos from the right wing.

Garcia signed the triplet at 86' after another pass by Castellanos, who had opened the scoring in the 14th minute of the first half with a diagonal shot to the goal line, after a steal in the midfield by Yorgelis Pineda and a pass by Garcia.

Castellanos and Garcia lead the goalscoring table of the tournament with three goals each.

After this result, Venezuela leads the group A, which includes Zambia, Italy and Costa Rica, with six points.

This is the first time a Venezuelan team ranks quarterfinals in a world cup organized by the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA).
