Vásquez about to become the Venezuelan with more points in the NBA

Greivis Vasquez is poised to become the Venezuelan that has scored most points in the NBA.

Gradually, the constancy of the native of Caracas, 27 years old and 1.98 meters high, has paid off. This Tuesday he will jump onto the field just 36 points away from the 2,481 that Carl Herrera achieved in 465 games, played between the year 1991 and 1999 wearing four different shirts (Houston Rockets, San Antonio Spurs, Vancouver Grizzlies and Denver Nuggets).

Greivis, who currently plays for the Toronto Raptors, would be able to beat the mark this very same week, in which the Canadian team will play four games (Atlanta Hawks twice, Pelicans New Orleans and Oklahoma City Thunder).

Vasquez is averaging 8.5 points per game this season so it seems feasible that he can dethrone -in only four seasons in the league and therefore in less games- Herrera,  first Venezuelan to reach the NBA, who played eight seasons in the best basketball league in the world.

However, Herrera remains with the maximum amount of rebounds for a Venezuelan (1,690) and, so far, is the only one to savor the sweetness of success in the NBA, winning two championship rings (1993-1994 and 1994-1995) with the Rockets, a glory that many legends of the American League have never achieved, which certainly is a dream and pending task for Vasquez, who hopes to spend more years in the NBA.
