Valencia Looking Forward to the Challenge of Facing England

Posted by Juan Gavasa on June 04, 2014

Manchester United winger Antonio Valencia has revealed that he is looking forward to the challenge of playing for Ecuador against England when the two countries meet in Miami on Wednesday.

Speaking to MUTV, Valencia said: "Normally we don’t get the chance to test ourselves against European teams, and England are one of the big sides in Europe, so that’s great”.

There is a chance Valencia could come up against a few of his club-mates with Wayne Rooney, Danny Welbeck, Chris Smalling and Phil Jones all part of the England squad. He commented, “[The game is] being played in a great city and it’s always nice to line up at international level against your team-mates. It will be good to say hello to them and wish them well for the World Cup".

The flying winger, who has captained his country since the untimely death of Christian Benitez last year, is hopeful that a good performance against England will provide a platform for his team heading into the competition in Brazil.

He said, “Let’s hope we can give a good account of ourselves as it’ll be good preparation going into the World Cup. I’m happy the tournament is in Brazil and I hope it’s a spectacle for the people of South America to enjoy.”
