World junior 400 metres champion Machel Cedenio enjoyed success in his first individual outing since capturing the global under-20 title, striking gold in the Flame Games men’s one-lap event in Amsterdam, Netherlands, on Friday.

Though he was the youngest athlete to face the starter in the Flame Games 400m A race, Cedenio emerged as the class of the field, the 18-year-old Trinidad and Tobago quartermiler clocking 45.48 seconds for a comfortable cushion on Brazilian Anderson Henriques, the runner-up in 45.82. Netherlands athlete, Lee-Marvin Bonevacia (46.17) finished third.

Last month, in Eugene, Oregon, USA, Cedenio earned IAAF World Junior Championship gold in 45.13 seconds--a new national under-20 record and the fastest time in the world this year by a junior athlete.

T&T sprinter Keston Bledman finished sixth in the Flame Games men’s 100m final in 10.29 seconds. Justin Gatlin won easily, getting to the line in 10-flat to finish well-ahead of his fellow-American Marvin Bracy, who claimed silver in 10.17. Bronze went to Netherlands sprinter Churandy Martina (10.20).

In the Flame Games qualifying round, Bledman was second in heat one and third overall in 10.26 seconds. On Thursday, at the DN Galan IAAF Diamond League meet in Stockholm, Sweden, Bledman had earned silver in 10.09.

At the Sainsbury’s Birmingham Grand Prix IAAF Diamond League meet, in England, yesterday, T&T’s Cleopatra Borel claimed bronze in the women’s shot put with an 18.62 metres effort. The 2014 Commonwealth Games silver medallist produced five 18-plus throws in the competition—18.06m, 18.09m, 18.45m, 18.62m, and 18.12m.

New Zealand’s Valerie Adams was victorious, the Olympic, world and Commonwealth champion throwing 19.96m. Germany’s European champion Christina Schwanitz (19.27m) finished second.
