T&T Quartet to Represent in Pan Am Festival

Trinidad and Tobago will be represented by four badminton players in the Pan American Sports Festival in Mexico.

Kerwyn Pantin, Nekeisha Blake, Will Lee and Jada Renales will be in action from tomorrow until Monday at the Jose Ma Arteaga Auditorium.

All four players were members of the team which earned this country’s best-ever haul of 34 medals during the Caribbean Regional Badminton Confederation (CAREBACO) Championships last month.
Eight-time and defending national champion Pantin and five-time national champ Blake were members of the outfit which picked up a silver medal in the senior team event.
The squad, which included Lee and Renales, also secured a silver medal in the junior team event.
Renales actually earned three CAREBACO silver medals as the national Under-17 champ finished runner-up in singles and doubles (with Ralitsa Wong) in her age-group.
Last year’s national Under-17 champ Lee, who reached the quarter-finals of singles and doubles in the Under-19 division of the Guatemala Junior International earlier this year, notched a bronze in singles by reaching the Under-19 semi-finals.
Former top player Derwin Renales, the president of the Trinidad and Tobago Badminton Association and national junior coach, travelled with the players on Wednesday.
The Pan Am Sports Festival, which also involves several other disciplines, including athletics, archery, rhythmic gymnastics, rowing and weightlifting, began in July and will conclude at the end of the month.
