Toronto Raptors Future Depends on DeRozan and Biyombo

Posted by PanamericanWorld on May 30, 2016

Raptors guard DeMar DeRozan feels the best place for him to be for his professional basketball career is right here in Toronto.

The two time NBA All-Star spoke shortly after Friday night’s loss in Game 6 of the Eastern Conference Finals to the Cleveland Cavaliers. He stated that he is committed to the team and that he likes his opportunity here to win after the team’s best season in franchise history.

DeRozan’s contract imposes a player option for the 2016-2017 season and it will pay him $10 million US, but critics expect that he will test the waters of free agency and go after a max deal that could be worth twice as much..

GM Masai Ujiri is looking to re-sign the longest serving Raptors since 2009 and he will also have to work on possibly re-signing centre Bismack Biyombo, who brought his game to a new level during the NBA playoffs and most experts say that he will most likely opt out of his contract with a player option.

The Raptors signed Biyombo to two-year a $6 million contract last summer and it’s expected he will most likely look to cash in on his upgraded value following his highly successful post-season, but the centre has said that he loves Toronto and has yet to think about free agency.

Toronto won a franchise record 56 wins this season and they played 20 games in the playoffs finishing two wins shy of a trip to the 2016 NBA Finals.

The Cleveland Cavaliers will now wait to see who they play between either the Golden State Warriors and the OKC Thunder on their way to the NBA Finals, but not before LeBron James gave Raptors fans and Canada credit for the amazing support they give their basketball team.
