Startup Stories: Seguridad Biométrica de México, An Alternative to Conventional Methods

Posted by PanamericanWorld on September 04, 2016

Our startup stories now shed light on Seguridad Biométrica de México (Mexico’s Biometric Security), which is about to celebrate its first official year. This startup looks forward to strengthening its presence in the Mexican market, as an alternative to conventional methods in terms of security and people authentication. Its proposals have attracted many eyes and it was included as one of the finalists of the BBVA Open Talent 2016. PanamericanWorld sat down with Omar Daniel Hernandez, one of the founders, who talked about this startup’s projects.

When was this startup conceived and what were its goals?

Seguridad Biométrica de México was formally established back in November 2015. However, we had been working on this adventure since 2012, with the aim of offering affordable, flexible and easy-to-implement biometric authentication solutions, based on international standards.

What are the main services provided by you?

Our services are categorized in three important areas:

Biometric Authentication Services: we already have the cloud authentication service by using face, gestures, voice and fingerprints. Moreover, we provide the licensing service in the fingerprint authentication mode.

Consultancy: consultancy and assessment of biometric security systems implemented by third parties.

Integration and security special projects: comprehensive or turnkey solutions in which we’re fully in charge of developing the project.

Which have been the startup’s utmost results?

We’ve participated in several contests, both at national (Mexico) and international levels. The results are listed below:

- Finalists in BBVA Open Talent Intl 2016 (52 finalists out of 1,200 projects from 77 countries, 17 finalists from Latin America)

- Finalists in Innotribe Startup Challenge LATAM 2016 (9 finalists from Latin America out of 50 projects).

- Special participation in SME Finnance Forum 2016, Beijing, China.

- Finalists IBM Smart Camp 2015 Mexico (5 finalists)

- Semifinalists BBVA Open Talent 2015 Intl.

- Semifinalists Citi Mobile Challenge Asia

- First StartUp Generation Mexico Campus Bajio

- Graduates from IBM Global Entrepreneur Program

- Members of Microsoft BizSpark Program

What are your plans for this year?

We want to consolidate our position in the Mexican market as an alternative to conventional security and people authentication methods.

What do you think about the startup ecosystem in Mexico?

Over the past years, we’ve seen an increase in the number of incubators, accelerators and events related to the enterprising world. However, we still feel there is a lot to do in terms of public policies and investment, since both aspects are the keys to the development of the startup ecosystem and without them, no matter how the rest of elements are improved, entrepreneurs would find obstacles.

Your piece of advises to other startups?

Launching a business project is one of the most exhausting, frustrating and overwhelming experiences; but it’s also enriching, enjoyable and satisfying you can ever live.

If you have a dream, work hard for it and don’t stop until you succeed. If the plan fails, change the plan, not the goal.
