Spencer, Hall start Jamaica's quest at World Indoor champs Friday

Quarter milers Patricia Hall and Kaliese Spencer will be the first Jamaicans on the track 4:05am Friday morning Jamaica time when the IAAF World Indoor Championships gets under way in Sopot, Poland. Twelve Jamaicans are down to take part on the opening day of the three-day championships and will compete in the 400m for men and women, men’s 60m, men’s shot put, women’s 800m, women’s 60m hurdles, women’s triple jump and men’s long jump. The men’s shot put finals will be held in the evening session as well as the semi-finals of the 400m.

Hall, who was a semi-finalist two years ago in Istanbul, Turkey, will run in the first heat while Spencer a hurdles specialist will contest the second heat that will see the first two automatically advance to the semi-finals.The men’s heat will be run off at 4:40am with Edino Steel who won a silver medal in the 4x400m in 2008 in Valencia, Spain and Ackheem Gauntlett taking part.

Medal prospect Kimberly Williams will take part in the women’s triple jump qualifying while O’Dayne Richards will seek to qualify for the shot put finals later in the day.Nesta Carter, silver medallist two years ago will be gunning a for  a third straight final in the men’s 60m set to start at 12:40pm Jamaica time Friday. Carter is in the fourth heat while his compatriot Kimmari Roach will compete in the first heat.

Damar Forbes will contest the qualifying round of the men’s long jump starting at 1:20pm after CAC 100m hurdles champion Monique Morgan and Indira Spence contest the heats of the 60m hurdles set to start at 12:05pm. At 7:00am, Natoya Goule will run in the heats of the women’s 800m as she hopes to become only the second Jamaican woman to win a medal after Kenia Sinclair’s silver in Moscow in 2006.
