Ronaldo: Neymar will star at World Cup

Posted by Laura Zúñiga on February 25, 2014

Doing plenty of media rounds, ahead of the 2014 World Cup in his home country this summer, former Brazilian star Ronaldo spoke with Radio Montecarlo about the difficulties leading up to the tournament, but with the firm belief that everything will proceed as planned.

“I’m absolutely convinced that it will be the best World Cup of all time. I’m really optimistic, most of all because it’s in my country. It’s a very important event and no effort will be spared to ensure everything goes well. It’s only natural that a few months ahead of the start, there’s some doubts. Look at what has happened in Soche ahead of the Winter Olympics, but in the end, that was a great event with great organisation.”

Ignoring the off the field repercussions of Neymar’s move to Barcelona, Ronaldo suggested that whilst the young Brazilian is perhaps a little in the shadow of Messi at the Catalan club, there’s no doubt he will be a key figure for his national team, at the show-piece summer tournament.

“After what I saw from him at the Confederations Cup, I’m optimistic for Brazil. It’s a young team and is showing its quality. Neymar will be the best Brazilian of 2014 and he’s already demonstrated his qualities there. Right now at Barcelona, he’s a little bit like a helper for Messi, but he has great value and is our great hope. If Brazil can reach the final with a great Neymar, he could be the star of the tournament.”
