President of Peru Ollanta Humala Tasso had the honor of ringing the closing bell at the stock exchange on Wall Street. “Our presence here is a demonstration of the fact that Peru is in an exciting and hopeful place, thanks to the work of its people,” Humala said. According to Andina, he added, “We also acknowledge the fact that there are Peruvian companies that are sought-after in this important stock market, and we as the government support and promote these companies so they help raise Peru to a place of high esteem.”

The Peruvian flag and the Marca Peru logo were both prominently displayed during the closing bell procedure. Andina notes that several Peruvians who work in New York greeted the president, telling him “It’s an honor, Mr. President. Long live Peru!”
