Over 650 publishing houses are participating in the 24th international book fair in the city of Monterrey, in the north east of Mexico, from October 11 to 19.

This time the book fair claims to be more inclusive, democratic, participative, interactive and playful, informed the Institute of Technology of Monterrey.

The book fair, which started on Saturday in the International Center of Businesses (Cintermex), aims to promote the habit and passion for reading to the students and to the community in general, informed the organizers.

In his opening speech, the rector of the Institute of Technology said that today it was more important than ever to read, in order to generate “the critical thinking that is so lacking nowadays.”

“It is important that society, the society of Nuevo Leon, of Mexico and of the world, have the opportunity to grow and develop, develop in values, the fundamental and universal values of the human being, which we can appropriate ourselves through books, but above all by strengthening the activities that are organized in schools, and experience them and illustrate them,” said Aurora Cavazos, the Secretary of Education.

The book fair is holding up to 450 events, such as conferences, presentations of books, workshops and other cultural shows.
