New Zeland looks for investments in Chile

Posted by Juan Gavasa on March 24, 2014

A New Zealand business delegation heading to Latin America is focusing on selling farm technology and looking for investment opportunities. Trade Minister Tim Groser and Primary Industries Minister Nathan Guy are leading the delegation to Chile and Colombia, which leaves today and returns on March 28.

"New Zealand is a significant investor in Chile's agricultural sector, having invested $630 million since 2007," Mr Guy said. "We believe this relationship will continue to strengthen over time," he said. The delegation will attend a field days event in southern Chile and visit farms and meet with local ministers and authorities in Colombia.

More than 40 New Zealand brands will demonstrate their products to farmers, buyers and distributors in a dedicated New Zealand farm technology promotion at the field days event. Last year 170 farmers from Colombia visited New Zealand on a study tour, getting first-hand insight into New Zealand's pastoral farming systems and agritechnology.

"This is my third visit to the region in the last 12 months, including a successful visit with the prime minister last year," Mr Guy said. "This is recognition of the importance New Zealand places on Latin America."
