The Spanish-Venezuelan tennis player Garbiñe Muguruza, 20 years old, eliminated the American Serena Williams, who was the favorite player at Roland Garros.

Muguruza's triumph was a surprise to the assistants, and it was a big satisfaction to the player because she defeated a very admired and respected tennis player. Muguruza, from a Venezuelan mother and a Basque father, said that this game was her best game so far.

"After we finished the game Serena told me if I continue playing like I did today, I could win this tournament", said Muguruza.

"Since I was a child I always wanted to play with Serena at the central court. This was the day and I think I did a good job", said the tennis player. "When you see a person's game this much, you know exactly what you need to defeat it".

In 288 games played by Serena Williams, the number 1 at the WTP ranking list and current champion, this was her worst lost in a Grand Slam.

Garbiñe Muguruza is a special case in the international tennis because she hasn’t decided if she wants to represent Venezuela or Spain, and both countries have expressed interest in her. The young tennis player said that she doesn't know yet, and she will take a decision to represent Spain or Venezuela at the end of the season at the Federation Cup.
