Nearly 200 swimmers from nine countries, including Mexican medal hopes for major internationals in 2015, put in their best performances at the Mexican Open International Para-Swimming Championships in Solidaridad, Mexico in early November.

World champion Patricia Valle was amongst those to swim to new records in a bid to be selected for the Toronto 2015 Para Pan American Games and 2015 IPC Swimming World Championships.

Speaking to Deporte Adaptado Mexico, Valle, who won the 50m breaststroke SB3 with a new Americas record time of 1:01.72, said "This is motivation, breaking a record of the Americas opens up great possibilities.” Paralympic and world champion Gustavo Sanchez won a total of six gold medals in men’s S4 events whilst triple world champion Nely Miranda sealed five top spots on the women’s podium.

Success continued for the Mexicans as S14 swimmer Mariana Diaz de la Vega touched in fastest twice to set two new unexpected Americas records in the women’s 100m breaststroke with a time of 1:32.87 and 100m backstroke (1:22.73).

"I'm very happy, we are working,” de la Vega said. “It is good, these results were surprises and now we continue with the preparation."

Beatriz Resendiz also stormed to a new S14 regional record of 2:54.64 in the 200m individual medley. "I feel very happy, surprised, was a very tiring job, but glad I managed to overcome it and now I will look further," Resendiz said.

The Mexican Paralympic Committee confirmed that the results from the Mexican Open would contribute towards pre-selection for Toronto 2015 taking place between 7-15 August and qualification for the 2015 IPC Swimming World Championships in Glasgow, Great Britain, from 13-19 July.
