Manchester United in surprise move for Brazilian international

Manchester United are being linked with a surprise move for Real Madrid defender Marcelo, according to the Daily Express.

Carlo Ancelotti is believed to be weighing up a move for Bayern Munich’s David Alaba and, should the La Liga giants come to an agreement with the Bundesliga side, then Marcelo’s position would come under threat – Alaba is believed to be frustrated at the Allianz Arena as the Austrian international is being played in various positions and his left-back slot is under threat from Juan Bernat.

Marcelo is a left-back by trade and, despite signing Luke Shaw from Southampton and Marcos Rojo from Sporting Lisbon, two players who can play at left-back, Louis van Gaal clearly wants to add more experience to that side of the Red Devils.

The Brazilian international, who represented the hosts at the summer World Cup, is currently in his seventh year with the Los Blancos and has made seven La Liga appearances, plus two Champions League run outs, for Real Madrid this season.
