Lima to host Mining & Investment Latin America Summit

Posted by Juan Gavasa on August 25, 2014

Headlines linking Peru and the theme of mining seem to swaddle news media coverage, whether it be reports of legality or environmental issues, or perhaps the rich resources that the nation beholds. Appropriately, Peru will be playing host to the Minding & Investment Latin America Summit, held at The Westin Hotel.

Focused entirely upon mining investment and efficiency, the event expects to draw over 600 attendees. The event is a great opportunity for those involved in the mining sector to network with other investors, miners or government representatives from Latin America.

As reported by the MILAS, industry survey results showed that “more than 36% surveyed are interested in investing setting up operations in Peru”, yet “66% believe that Latin America is a risky investment due to social and political problems”. Thus, the event offers discussions of such themes as sustainable development and low operational costs, security of qualified workers, strengthening of infrastructures, as well as how to engage with communities and governments.

As a 2013 attendee, Luis Saenz, of Li3 Energy Inc., reports that last year’s event was a “breath of fresh air…and hope” as miners of all levels were able to meet with investors who “understood mining and its risks at depth and were actually looking for opportunities into which to put their cash at work.”
