Jordi Savall & Hesperion XXI are scheduled to perform on September 5 at MIMO’s festival in Olinda at Igreja da Sé at 20:30 (8:30 pm).

A rightful icon of Early Music, musician and researcher Jordi Savall, born in Igualada (Spain), will travel to Brazil exclusively to perform at MIMO in Olinda. The celebrated musician of the viol (viola da gamba) – an instrument which resembles the cello – will perform this concert with one of the most famous ensembles he ever created, Hesperion XXI.

For the past four decades Savall has performed 140 concerts per year on all continents, having become one of the most versatile musicians of his generation. He has released nearly 200 works with a repertoire that spans from Medieval, Renaissance, Baroque into Classic, emphasizing the musical heritage of the Iberian Peninsula. He shed light on these musical gems, transcribed and revised numerous manuscripts of Moorish, Turkish, Greek and Spanish origins.

Savall’s discography includes: Mare Nostrum, Istanbul, Bal-kan: Honey & Blood – Cycles of Life, Orient-Occident II.

MIMO Festival 2014 presents some of the finest acts in jazz, world music and classical. It takes place August 29-31 in Ouro Preto (Minas Gerais); September 4-7 at Olinda (Pernambuco); October 10-12 at Paraty (Rio De Janeiro State); and October 17-19 at Tiradentes (Minas Gerais).
