James-mania at Madrid's Colombia Day party

James Rodríguez is not just the latest Real Madrid poster boy; he is also a talisman for his country. Madrid's Colombian community showed their delight about his arrival in the Spanish capital during a party held on Saturday 26th July in celebration of Colombian Independence Day (which officially falls on 20th July).

Held at the Las Cruces Park in the Aluche neighbourhood of Madrid and organised by the Amigos Mira España Association - an NGO that does a lot of work with immigrants - the event was attended by scores of families and groups of friends, all of whom enjoyed a fun day out in a multicultural atmosphere.

Naturally, there were plenty of Colombian national football team shirts in sight, the majority of which sported 'James' and the number 10 on the back, and the slightest excuse was seized on by those present to strike up chants of the ex-Monaco man's name.

In the words of Gastar Muñoz, one of the organisers, "James signing for Real Madrid is a source of pride for everyone back in Colombia. It's brought us a lot of joy".

Fresh off the back of Rodríguez's unveiling at the Bernabéu, which was gatecrashed by throngs of Colombia fans, Saturday's celebrations further evidenced the fervour for the star among the 'Cafeteros' faithful - meaning Real Madrid may just have gained some new supporters.
