Greivis, the Venezuelan with the most points in the NBA

Greivis Vasquez scored 21 points and became the Venezuelan with the largest amount of points in NBA history (2,490), surpassing the legendary Carl Herrera (2,481), on a game in which the Toronto Raptors fell 119-118 to the Thunders of Oklahoma City in double overtime at the Air Canada Centre.

Vasquez played 31 minutes and finished 11-9 in court shots and 5-3 in triples plus five rebounds and four assists.

The Venezuelan shooting guard, 27, outstripped Carl Herrera in only four seasons in the NBA, half the time the two-time winner of championship ring in the NBA (1991 and 1999) played. To date, Vasquez has played 279 games and averaged 8.9 points per game, while Herrera was active in 465 games with an average of 5.3.

Greivis has played for four teams in the best basketball in the world: Memphis Grizzlies, New Orleans Hornets, Sacramento Kings and the Raptors. Herrera also defended four different uniforms: Houston Rockets, San Antonio Spurs, Vancouver Grizzlies and Denver Nuggets.

“It’s a big honor for me. Nobody surpasses what Carl did during his career. This is important, but a championship ring would be better... or two, as Carl," Vasquez said in a statement, devoting this feat to his "family and especially to the country."

Raptors return to the court this Sunday when they will host the Atlanta Hawks at 12.30 noon.
