Gastón Acurio says farewell

Posted by Juan Gavasa on August 28, 2014

Pushing the maximum number of characters allowed in a Facebook post to the limit, Gastón Acurio used the social media site to announce his retirement as head chef from his restaurant, Astrid & Gastón.

As the chef explains, the decision was made in order that he is able to fully commit to other projects, such as the Peru expedition of 2015. The chef hopes to travel in search of “stories, products, people and answers” that are hidden in villages and small towns throughout his beloved country. The entrepreneurial chef is also developing a website that will connect small producers with consumers.

World renowned himself, Gastón publicly expressed gratitude towards his customers, to his partners and of course, as ambassador of Peruvian cuisine, to the nation that he proudly represents. He states his appreciation of the support along “this 20 year journey to deliver a dream”.

Gastón also highlights the importance of his business partner and wife, Astrid, whom he credits for teaching him to “be a better person everyday”. Astrid, co-founder of the franchise, will remain with the restaurant.

The couple opened the original Astrid & Gaston in 1994 in the Miraflores district of Lima. In February of 2014, the restaurant was relocated to San Isidro to fill the Casa Hacienda Moreyra, a 300-year old historical heritage site, with delicious aromas.
