Fraser-Pryce Confirmed For JII

Posted by Shanelle Weir on March 12, 2014

Olympic and World Indoor champion Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce leads a talented field already booked for the IAAF WC/Jamaica International Invitational, with more big names expected to be added ahead of the May 3 meet.

Fraser-Pryce, fresh from claiming the World Indoor 60m gold medal, will be joined by Olympic 200m champion Allyson Felix of the United States and rising Nigerian star Blessing Okagbare. They will be joined by Jamaica-born 400m Olympic champion, Sanya Richards-Ross, 100m hurdles World champion Briana Rollins and World Indoor 400m champion Francena McCorory.

Fraser-Pryce's compatriots and MVP teammates, Kaliese Spencer and Stephenie McPherson, have also been booked for the event.

Leading the male contingent is 400m World champion, American LaShawn Merritt and his compatriot Curtis Mitchell, a bronze medallist in the 200m at last year's Moscow Championships. Perennial medal contender and relay specialist Nesta Carter is the biggest name so far among the local male contingent, and he will be joined by Nickel Ashmeade. Ashmeade, who missed out on individual medals at last year's World Championship, but picked up a gold medal as a member of the relay team, is also scheduled to return to the meet at which he won the 200m title last year.
