First Gold Medal for Venezuela in athletics in Nanjing

The athlete María Simancas won gold medal in the international mixed relay race 8x100 in the II Youth Olympic Games Nanjing 2014.

The girl competed with a team of various countries that clocked a time of 1:40.20 to obtain the first place of the competition.

The team was formed by one athlete of Germany, Russia, British Virgin Islands, Rumania, Thailand, Australia, Comoros and Venezuela (four women and four men).

In the 400 meters Simancas finished 11th with a time of 54.22 seconds.

This medal does not count for the official medals of the country because it was won by a group of athletes that represent different countries. This is a modality created to promote fraternity, brotherhood and solidarity between the nations and the athletes.
