Farruko seeking to be reggaeton leader with new album, "Los Menores"

Puerto Rican reggaeton artist Farruko brought together other musicians in the genre to produce his newest album, "Los Menores," which topped the iTunes digital store's rankings in just a few hours after its release on Oct. 27.

"I am very happy about it, and it happened because this album was well thought and very well promoted on social networks, where I kept my fans up to date with the production process and release dates," Carlos Efren Reyes, better known as Farruko, told Efe.

"Los Menores" soared to the top of the charts in the "Urban Latin" category, led the "Top Latino Albums" list and jumped into the Top 40 general rankings.

"When you want to be a leader, you must think like a leader," the 23-year-old Farruko said. "A leader doesn't charge ahead alone, he charges with an army behind him."

So it was that Farruko invited fellow artists Arcangel, Ñego Flow, J-Balvin, Tony Dize, Nicky Jam and J Alvarez, among others, to participate in the 15-track album.

Farruko, twice nominated for Latin Grammys for his "6AM" theme along with J-Balvin, said he went out "knocking door by door" to contact his fellow artists and "some of them were enthusiastic about the proposal."

The process taught him key aspects of musical production, Farruko said, adding that he also learned to "adapt to each artist's style."

"I think that, after this album, I could stop singing and become a producer because I gained confidence by getting into the other artists' approaches and learning to listen opinions," the singer said.

The album includes solos, such as "Recordarte," "Lejos de aqui" and "Asi creci."
