Eva Longoria to return to primetime TV as a 'Telenovela' diva

The first thing NBC chairman Bob Greenblatt spoke about at the Television Critics Association's winter press tour on Friday was Eva Longoria, whose stock continues to rise in Tinseltown.

Greenblatt announced that the former "Desperate Housewives" actress will produce and star in a 13-episode miniseries called “Telenovela,” according to the Hollywood Reporter.

The series will offer a comedic gimpse into what goes into putting one of the Spanish-language soap operas together. Longoria will play Ana Maria, the star of a hit telenovela. The miniseries is expected to air in the fall.

Longoria had been in talks with NBC to star in the show while also considering a major role in an ABC comedy.

Longoria will produce “Telenovela” along with Ben Spector and “Cougar Town” alums Chrissy Pietrosh and Jessica Goldstein.

On Friday, Longoria tweeted: “I'm beyond excited to come back to television in front of the camera! Hope u guys will be watching!

Greenblatt compared "Telenovela" to "Soapdish," according to USA Today. "We're just going to go at the telenovela, which will be fun."

USA Today said that the series may fold in "snippets" of Telemundo novelas. Telemundo is part of NBC.
