Ellie Black: Canada's most decorated athlete at Pan Am Games

Canada's most decorated athlete so far at the Pan Am Games is heading home.

Gymnast Ellie Black won five medals — three gold, one silver and a bronze — including the gold for overall individual performance.

"They got a little bit heavy so I had to take them off,"  the gymnast joked with CBC News over the phone.

"It feels incredible. I mean, just to come out here and have such a great week of competition in Toronto, in our home country with the home crowd cheering me on and cheering the team on — it was just fantastic."

Black trains at Halifax Alta Gymnastics Club on Bayers Road.

She said she'll rest when she gets home Thursday but she's most looking forward to returning to the gym.

"I'm congratulated by everybody at the gym. It's great. It's a great sense of having a great family at the gym," said Black.

"Everyone's very supportive and I miss them so much when I'm gone so it's great to come back there, that's the first place I want to go."

She said she's impressed by the skill and talent of Nova Scotians at this year's games.

"We have some fantastic athletes in Nova Scotia and here at the Pan Am games. Our Nova Scotian athletes have been doing incredible. I've seen a whole bunch of them with medals around their neck so I think there's something great going on in Nova Scotia," said Black.
