Don Quijote Premiers in Uruguay

With more than 18,000 tickets already sold for its 14 performances, Del Sodre National Ballet company performed on Friday a version of “Don Quijote.” “We are absolutely delighted by having here the best ballet in the history of Uruguay,” said Gerardo Grieco, Director National Auditorium Adela Reta, where the play will be take place.

This version of “Don Quijote” is directed by Julio Bocca, and was produced by Argentine artists Silvia Vazilis and Raul Candal. The original “Don Quijote” was a three-act play written by Marius Pepita and composer Ludwig Mikus in 1869, and was performed by the Bolshoi Ballet in Moscow.

“This Quijote is a dream come true, and the fulfillment of our vision that something like this could be done in the country.” added Grieco. Since 2010, Del Sodre National Ballet began a renewal process under Bocca’s direction. Since then, his shows have broken records received excellent reviews. The company has been through difficult tims since its foundation in 1935. Their shows didn’t sell more than 7,000 tickets in a year. Now, each show season sells at least that many.
