After their loss to Turkey 3-2, World No. 10 Dominican Republic defeated World No. 4 Italy in a thrilling tiebreak match 3-2 (21-25, 19-25, 32-30, 26-24, 25-11) on Saturday, bringing Italy down in the FIVB Volleyball World Grand Prix rankings and making their chances of entering the Finals a tight race on Sunday.

The Dominican Republic’s Prisilla Rivera Brens stayed in the entire match to score 28 points for her team, along with captain Bethania De La Cruz De Pe¤a, who scored 22.

Going into the tiebreak set, the Dominican Republic produced fast, imposing attacks and perfect defence, ending the set with a 15-11 score and a 3-2 match win.

Italy plays World No. 7 Turkey on Sunday. The Dominican Republic will face Algeria, who have yet to win their first set in this year’s World Grand Prix and are last in the World Grand Prix rankings.
