Posted by Dubraswka Aguilar on February 27, 2014

Cocodrilos de Caracas, reigning Pro Basketball League (LPB) and only representative of Venezuela still active in the FIBA Americas League, reached the semifinals starting tomorrow in Xalapa, Veracruz, Mexico. Within the first group of semi-finals, Caracas will face Flamengo (Brazil), Halcones de Xalapa (Mexico) and Uberlandia (Brazil), in that order, between Friday 28 and Sunday March 2.

Led by Néstor Salazar, Cocodrilos are commanding the LPB 2014 with a balance 9-1 after confirming a sweep at home against Trotamundos de Carabobo last Tuesday night. This series meant a farewell to American Andre Emmett, who accepted an offer to play in the league of Lebanon and will be replaced by forward Ryan Forehan-Kelly.

Forehan -Kelly, 34 years old and 1.96 meters tall, with previous experience in the country with Guaiqueríes de Margarita and Cocodrilos themselves, last year averaged 16.4 points, 4.6 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.4 steals for the capital team. He will join the basis Carl Elliott and pivot Kristoffer Lang, alongside a Venezuelan base led by Jesus “Zancudo” Centeno and Luis Bethelmy.

Shannon to La Guaira

Bucaneros de La Guaira, which played their most recent game of LPB without Dwayne Mitchell in the team, announced the hiring of experienced power forward Terrence Shannon, known in the country for his service for Guaros de Lara and Trotamundos de Carabobo and who in recent years has played in Asia, Argentina, Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico.

Meanwhile, Toros de Aragua announced the arrival of point guard Vance Cooksey, who replaces James Maye, eaves under contract in Puerto Rico and who will be in the country until March 16. Cooksey, 1.83 meters, 26 years old, has been playing in the league of Iceland with Snaeffell, for which he averaged 22.7 points, 5.6 rebounds and 6.7 assists in 10 games.
