Cabrera returns to first base

Posted by Dubraswka Aguilar on March 20, 2014

Miguel Cabrera is back to the first base, a position he has covered much of his career and therefore is well known by him.

"I will not hear more people saying I'm not good at third base and that I do not defend well the position," he said laughing in an interview with MLB.

The departure of Prince Fielder from the feline team allowed Miggy to return to the first base, in which he has committed 42 errors in 598 games, recording a .992 fielding percentage in 5.129.1 innings.

Despite the criticism received regarding his defense skills, numbers back him. Cabrera’s lifetime fielding percentage is very close to the league average. Even at third base, his .956 is just three points behind the average for third basemen in the majors in 2013, which is .959.

The fact of returning to first base and getting rid of all this nagging can generate a very positive effect on the three-time American League batting champion.

The 2011 campaign was the last in which Cabrera was full time at first base. At that time he played 152 games in which committed 13 sins.

The expectations for the coming season are great. "I think that having a team with fast players can be very positive for us because we shall put a lot more pressure on rivals," said the Triple Crown winner.
