Argentina Beats Australia

Argentina Beats Australia

Posted by Juan Gavasa on April 05, 2014

The Hockeyroos could not match the Argentinians, ranked number two in the world, as goals to Luciana Aymar (17th minute), Gisele Juarez (30th minute) and Carla Rebecchi (40th minute) ensured a comfortable win in the six-nation event on Saturday.

Australia created opportunities in the second half but they could not get anything past Argentinian goalkeeper Belen Succi. "We need to learn to start at high intensity," said Hockeyroos coach Adam Commens.

"There were numerous chances for us to score ... it came down to our structure and their strong defence. "Argentina are clearly one of the best teams in the world... with the difference visible today."

In their next match on Sunday, the Hockeyroos will meet Japan, who lost to China on Saturday.
