The MVP of the 2013-14 LVBP season will play this summer in the Mexican League. The "Samurai" Alex Cabrera signed a one year contract with Rojos del Aguila de Veracruz, the team reported on its website.

Cabrera comes from getting a new record of home runs (21 HR) and became the first Triple Crown winner in the Venezuelan league to achieve the MVP award unanimously. The pride of El Tigre town batted .391 for Tiburones de La Guaira, with 21 homers and 59 RBIs. These numbers were a key for Veracruz to take the decision of signing Cabrera.

"He comes to our team for what he has done during his career and what he did in the winter league," said to Mexican media the president of Rojos, Jose Mansur.

Cabrera was signed in 1991 by the Chicago Cubs, but debuted in the majors on June 26, 2000 with the Arizona Diamondbacks, before being sent to Japan where he hit 321 homers in 10 seasons. In 2002 the “Samurai” hit 55 homers to tie a record that had the Japanese Sadaharu Oh and the American Tuff Rhodes. In 2013 Wladimir Balentien, from Curacao, hit 57 to break the mark.

Cabrera has experience in the Mexican league in the seasons 96 and 97 with Minatitlan and Tigres, with 44 home runs total.

Moreover, José Antonio Mansur announced that they have also come to terms with reliever Rafael Cova, who had a great performance with Tiburones de La Guaira.

Cova participated in 29 games with the team during the regular season where he left a 2-1 record in 27.1 innings pitched.
