10 things you should know about importing vehicles in Venezuela

Ministries of Finance, Trade and Industry published the rules governing the import of vehicles by persons or firms with noncommercial own currencies, regardless if they are in national banks or abroad.

The measure was announced through the Official Gazette No. 42,522 dated October 20.

Here are ten things you should know about  the relaxation of this measure:

1. People who choose to buy a new or used car for some categories like vans pick up truck, must pay at the office on average 42% tax (value in exchange). However, this percentage can be increased to 52% in the case of cars with more than $ 20,000 value because the Luxury Tax is included.

2.-The regulations do not specify the exchange rate by which the body responsible for the payment of such taxes shall be governed. However, in June this year Seniat reported that "some imports" for nationalization Sicad one pass (today BS12 / $) and the rate of new and used cars would be in that category, anonymous government sources said.

3.-The person does freely purchase with the currency deposited in national, public and private banks, or abroad. Payment is the person's responsibility so it is advisable to search for advice to avoid falling into scams.

4.-Once you have with this "guide" to purchase, hire a company to transport those goods. The standard does not limit this option. 5.-Among the documents requested by customs, are: affidavit and proof of origin of the funds used for the purchase.

6. Companies if required can buy a fleet. The novelty of the rule is that there is a temporary suspension of an import license, which makes it attractive resolution.

7.- Import may be of new cars of any make or model. Used cars will be for the transport of goods, provided that the year of manufacture is not more than five years before the date of importation assigned.

8.- You can also import tractors of any make or model and used cars of type of headings 8703 and 8704.

9.- Individuals can participate, of legal age and companies, that have their own currency resources.

10.-The natural person may import, non-commercial use only one vehicle for every three years; while companies may do so regardless of the amount. They must make a sworn statement indicating the use and destination of the goods, as well as the origin of the money used.
